Baptism at Canyons Church
Take the Next Step in Your Faith
Discover the Meaning of Baptism
Baptism is a significant step in the life of every believer, symbolizing your faith in Jesus Christ and your commitment to follow Him. At Canyons Church in San Diego, we believe baptism represents:
-
Christ’s Burial and Resurrection:
“Christ died for our sins… He was buried… and He rose again.”
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4) -
A New Life in Christ:
“When someone becomes a Christian, they become a new person inside. The old life is gone, and a new life has begun!”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Baptism doesn’t make you a believer—it shows that you already believe. It’s a public declaration of your faith, just like a wedding ring is a symbol of marriage.
Why Be Baptized By Immersion?
It Follows Jesus’ Example:
It Reflects the Biblical Method:
It Holds Symbolic Meaning:
“As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water.”
(Matthew 3:16)
Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion, symbolizing the burial and resurrection of Christ.
Immersion represents being buried with Christ and rising to new life.
Who Should be Baptized?
Baptism is for anyone who has personally placed their faith in Jesus Christ.
- “Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized…” (Acts 2:41)
- “Simon himself believed and was baptized…” (Acts 8:13)
At Canyons Church, we wait until children are old enough to understand the true meaning of baptism before they take this step.
When Should I Be Baptized?
The Bible encourages believers to be baptized as soon as they trust in Christ.
“Those who believe… were baptized that day!” (Acts 2:41)
“Here is water! Why shouldn’t I be baptized right now?” (Acts 8:36)
Don’t wait until you feel “perfect.” Baptism is a step of obedience that can be taken as soon as you have faith in Jesus.
